The past intersects with the present
Drawing from my past, my artistic inspiration often traces back to my Colorado upbringing, where the majestic mountains and vivid blue skies find expression in my paintings. Additionally, nearly two decades residing on the Olympic Peninsula in the Pacific Northwest left me immersed in scenes of water, towering cedar trees, soft rain, and fog.
In the creation of this particular painting, my thoughts were rooted in my Colorado origins. During my formative years, my mother, a prolific artist featured in galleries across the nation, influenced my artistic journey. I frequently found myself driving her sizable artworks down to Santa Fe to economize on shipping costs. Post-gallery drop-offs, I would wander through the plaza, captivated by the Pueblo Indian crafts, often selecting jewelry as a memento. As in jewelry, turquoise and coral represent sky and earth, linking back to the landscapes that shaped my artistic sensibilities.
This new painting, "Tapestry" was inspired by that magical place of art, sun, patterned trade blankets and beautiful turquoise jewelry.
